Alexander Moreira-Almeida is Full Professor of Psychiatry at the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF) School of Medicine in Brazil and Founder and Director of NUPES, the Research Center in Spirituality and Health. He trained in psychiatry at the University of São Paulo and was a postdoctoral fellow in religion and health at Duke University. His research focuses on the empirical study of spiritual experiences, the relationship between religiosity and mental health, and the mind-brain problem. He is a former Chair of the World Psychiatric Association's Section on Religion, Spirituality and Psychiatry (2014–2021).
