Willem J. Schoeman

Willem J. Schoeman (known as Kobus) is a Professor Emeritus of Practical and Missional Theology at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa, from which he retired at the end of 2024. His research focuses on empirical congregational studies, religious demography, and the social role of faith communities, drawing on a background that combines theological training with a master's degree in sociology. He was a co-investigator on the Global Flourishing Study's South Africa benchmarking work and has published extensively on the South African religious landscape and church-society relations.
