Joseph Bulbulia is a Professor of Psychology in the Faculty of Science at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. One of the founders of contemporary evolutionary religious studies, his research centers on how religious beliefs and rituals shape cooperation, well-being, and prosocial behavior, using longitudinal and causal-inference methods. He is a member of the senior management team of the New Zealand Attitudes and Values Study, co-editor of the journal Religion, Brain & Behavior, and past president of the International Association for the Cognitive Science of Religion. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University.
